This project will show how to create a piece of art work using various different techniques with the Melt Art melting pot. As this is a detailed workshop it will be in 2 parts – so please look out for part 2 as it shows some different ideas with the Creative expressions gilding waxes.

Step by Step Instructions

1 Cut and emboss 2 pieces of white coconut card using the enchanted frame Spellbinder die. Then also cut another piece using the Heartfelt Creations vintage floret paper. Use a sheet of wax paper in between the die and card to allow the card to fall easily out of the die.

11

2 Turn the Melt Art melting pot on to the UTEE setting                                                              (which stands for  Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) and add a nice amount of the Cosmic Shimmer clear embossing crystals & then a small amount of the blue raspberry & silver shine side by side. Place the lid on the melt pot to allow the crystals to melt.

2 2

3 This is how the crystals will look as they are melting in the pan. By keeping the crystal colours separate the colours can be swirled once melted to make a lovely pattern.

3 3

4 Use the clear Cosmic Shimmer glue to join 2 pieces of the enchanted frame together. Take the 3rd frame & tear the paper at an angle across the middle of the design & glue to the white panel.

4 4

5 Lift the lid off the melt pot & use the spatula provided with the melt pot to stir the embossing powder. Use a cutting motion to achieve swirls rather than mixing it all up together as you`ll lose the effect.

5 5

6 With both hands grabbing both handles on the melt pot (the right hand would normally be there but it`s holding the camera!!) Please make sure that your fingers are pointing upwards so they don`t touch the silver Hot tray. Start to tip the melt pot forward so the embossing powder runs to the front lip of the pan.

6 6

7 Once the melt pot has been tipped up then allow the molten embossing powder to cover the white area of the prepared enchanted frame. Make sure the non stick mat is under the card panel. Using the Spellbinder die with the fine filigree areas in the corners means the embossing powder can leave a wonderful stain glass effect in the corner.

7 7

8 Depending on the look you want to achieve will make a difference to the amount of UTEE that is poured over the card. You may want to layer different colours. Here a more mixed up colour layer of UTEE has been poured onto the card & the corner sections have had a heat tool used to melt the UTEE from the filigree corner area. This is all just personal choice.

8 8

9 As 2 layers of UTEE were added (mainly because of holding a camera!!)  The heat tool is used to melt and blend the UTEE together – ideally you would pour one amount of UTEE over the white area.

9 9

10 To clean the melt pot pan just take the spatula and lift up as much of the remaining UTEE.

10 10

11 Place the UTEE onto the non stick craft mat and repeat this process until nearly 100% of the UTEE is out of the pan.

11 11

12  Switch the melt pot off at the mains and when the pan has cooled down a bit take a paper towel & remove the small amount left in the pan. REMEMBER to be very careful of the pan as it`s still warm at this point but it`s needed to allow the UTEE to be wiped away & not set on the pan area as it would be when cold.

1212

13  Take the 3D delightful daises M-Bossibilities folder & split the folder in half by unhinging it. Add clear perfect medium to the debossed area on the flower head.

13 13

14 Alternatively rather than cleaning out the UTEE from the melt pot as shown before then add some more colours to the pan. Here Lapis Jade, Tropic Violet & Malachite Fire ultra thick embossing crystals have been added to the melt pot.

14 14

15  Again place the melting pot lid on & have the setting on UTEE. Lift the lid to check if the crystals have all melted and replace the lid for a few more minutes if they haven`t. Never place the crystals higher than the MAX mark on the pot.

15 15

16 Now take the spatula again and using the same technique draw and swirl the spatula up and around to pick up the colours of the molten UTEE. Do not over work this part.

16 16

17 Lift the melting pot up using the same technique as earlier pour the molten UTEE into the inked 3D section of the 3D embossing folder.

17 17

18 Leave the UTEE to set a little and please make sure you don`t stick your finger in the hot UTEE to check, always use a tool and tap it to see if it`s hardened. Once it`s ready hold your hands either side of the UTEE on the folder & press up from underneath & the flower will just pop out.

18 18

19 This is the 3D impression from the folder and with the various mixes of colours of the embossing crystals. This effect has only been made possible by using the melting pot.

19 19

20 Trim away any excess UTEE whilst the flower is just out of the mould. Now take the patina gilding wax and add a small amount to your finger. Highlight the raised edges of the flower.

20 20

21 Depending on the look use the enchanted gold & buff up the wax with a tissue to achieve the required look.

21 21

22 For the next step and full details will follow in part 2 of the workshop next week. Please make sure any wax added to a stamp is removed as soon as it`s been stamped using ideally a Grime Boss wipe. More next week including gilding ribbon???

Hello Suzanne. I’ve just treated myself to a melt pot for my birthday last week (no-one bought me one even though I hinted like mad – I’ve a sneaky feeling they all think I’m mad for wanting one, but then they don’t have the crafting bug). Haven’t had a chance to use it yet but I’m loving these techniques. Looking forward to part 2. X
