Step by Step Instructions
Step 1. This workshop will show you how to make this toned `Thanks for Being My Friend` card. For it you`ll need the Couture Creations vintage rose 12″ x 12“ paper pad, the John Lockwood cherry blossom striplet stamp, the Sue Wilson configurations collection lattice arched adornment die, an optional striplet ~ the floral meadow die , the Sue Wilson finishing touches magical butterfly die, the Sue Wilson finishing touches camellia complete petals die along the Creative Expressions amazing sentiments stamps.
Step 2. Select the striped sheet from the Couture Creations vintage rose 12″ x 12″ paper pad. Trim off the left hand side of the paper so you have the 3 stripes remaining along with the white edging to the paper.
Step 3. Just holding the paper over the right hand side of the paper with show you where the paper will sit. Make sure you match up the light pink stripe with one underneath for a perfect finish to the piece.
Step 4. Leave one extra stripe in the lighter pink so the paper can be added over that stripe. This means cutting 3 strips from the right hand side of the paper leaving you with 5 stripes in the centre which can be used for another project.
Step 5. Use some Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue to stick the striped layer over itself to create the lovely white stamped effect border all around the paper.
Step 6. Cut the panel in half so you can move the design down to allow the paper to fit on a piece of A4 card for matting it.
Step 7. Make the finished panel 9¾” long by sticking the panel behind the paper. Now cut a piece of the peach paper to 7” x 10½”.
Step 8. Add some of the dried marigold distress ink onto a Creative Expressions smoothie & distress all around the edges of the panel. This will just enhance the white stamped effect design on the edges.
Step 9. Repeat the process on the other peach panel below the main paper panel.
Step 10. Add the larger panel onto a piece of foundations blush card leaving a small border all the way around the edge. Lay this on a piece of A4 kraft card.
Step 11. Leave a nice border around the top, bottom and left hand side of the panel & score down the right hand side of the card again leaving the same distance of card around the edge.
Step 12. Trim away the small excess card from the bottom or top edge making sure you leave the just scored edge in place.
Step 13. Fold the tab back.
Step 14. Add some red line strong tape or use some Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue on the tab.
Step 15. Remove the backing from the tape if you have used that method. Slide a piece of A4 kraft card so it butts right up against the crease of the card.
Step 16. Fold the tab down to create the larger base card. This technique is great when matching up the size of the backing paper to a card rather than making it fit a normal sized base card.
Step 17 . Trim the excess of the side of the card to finish the card base off.
Step 18. Cut 6 of the Sue Wilson configurations collection lattice arched adornment die using some foundations blush card.
Step 19. Then emboss the die shape as each of the shapes are cut. I find using the A5 Spellbinders plate nice and easy for these smaller size die shapes.
Step 20. This design is very intricate yet it cut out first time using the foundations 240gsm card.
Step 21. For this card 2 of the arches are going to be backed onto themselves to create a lovely pattern to the piece.
Step 22. All 3 pairs will be used but for sizing the middle set will overlap each over. It`s worth having a play before they are stuck down.
Step 23. This is how the 3 sets of dies will look.
Step 24. A perfect shape to house the striplet cherry blossom stamp by John Lockwood.
Step 25. Add a blush mat onto the smaller worked panel and add that over the peach mat using foam tape for added dimension. Lay the sets of dies onto the card so you can see where the spacing is needed.
Step 26. Add some of the dried marigold ink onto the die cuts before using some Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue to secure them onto the paper. Start by gluing the top and bottom sets onto the card so the middle set gets evenly spaced out.
Step 27. Take a piece of kraft card & add the John Lockwood cherry blossom stamp onto an acrylic block before inking it up with the clear & resist ink pad. Stamp the image and tip some of the Cosmic Shimmer true white embossing powder over the ink before heat setting it with a heat tool.
Step 28. Cut the stamped image out by either using a solid die from one of Sue Wilsons striplet set or use a guillotine to cut the image out. Select the rich gold, ancient copper & cosmic blush Cosmic Shimmer drawing inks to bring out the colour in the selection of paper panels from the paper pad.
Step 29. Shake the drawing ink so the mica mixes with the liquid & just fill in the flowers at random.
Step 30. Continue to swap with the other colours and build up the design leaving some of the flowers clear. You will find that the drawing inks will repeal away from the embossed edge leaving you with a wonderful crisp coloured in panel. Cut another piece of the peach paper slightly larger than the flower panel & use some kraft card to mat this panel.
Step 31. Mat both layers onto the card using foam tape.
Step 32. Stamp the `Thanks for being my Friend ` & the `You`re Amazing` sentiment onto a piece of the blush card using the clear & resist ink pad & add some Cosmic Shimmer bright gold embossing powder over the top before heat setting it.
Step 33. Cut the sentiments so they are the same height & distress the edges with some of the dried marigold ink. Use foam tape to attach the sentiments either side of the flower panel.
Step 34. Cut some of the small Sue Wilson complete petals dies and the magical butterflies using the kraft card.
Step 35. Add some of the drawing ink from the brush onto an acrylic block or use some Cosmic Shimmer water colours.
Step 36. Pick up the ink on the smoothie & dab it over the petal die shape. Repeat on the other flowers and butterflies using different colours as you go.
Step 37. Press an embossing tool into the centre of the small flower to bring to petals upwards. Do this on a soft mouse mat or some cut`n`dry foam.
Step 38. Add the flowers at random over the bottom corner of the flower panel. Add some Cosmic Shimmer pearl PVA glue in the centres of the flowers & add a few dots in the corner of the card.
Step 39. Here you have the finished project, lots of soft colours which have been used to tone the project throughout.
