Step by Step Instructions
Step 1. This workshop will show you how to make this distressed ornate frame project using the Couture Creations vintage rose 12″ x 12″ Paper Pad, the Creative Expressions ornate oval MDF frame, some glossy accents & the Cosmic Shimmer glossy glue, seal & glaze.
Step 2. With the Creative Expressions ornate oval MDF frame set there will be 2 frame sets, for this project the larger frame will be used. Select which side of the MDF you would prefer to use as one has the burnt edge look which happens whilst the MDF is being laser cut and the other side is the plainer MDF finish. I love the darker side as it adds charm to the piece & is a lovely colour on the edges too.
Step 3. Place the frame over the selected area on a sheet from the Couture Creations vintage rose 12″ x 12″ Paper Pad. Draw a faint pencil line area the inside of the frame so you know where the design will fit / look under the frame. This will allow the key features to be in the correct place too.
Step 4. Cut around the oval leaving at least 1cm extra around the oval as the back board is larger. Also cut out a butterfly and the words `Laugh`, `Smile ` and the smaller white `Believe` & `Moments` sentiments. Set aside for cutting the words out later on.
Step 5. Hold the piece of paper / MDF oval up to a window so you can see the oval laying the same distance all around the oval shape.
Step 6. Now use some of the Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue to stick the panel onto the oval MDF shape. Trim the excess paper off or use some sand paper to sand downwards on the edges as this will remove the excess paper.
Step 7. Now rub out the pencil line which was left on the paper. Next the small amount of the banner needs to be covered so …..
Step 8. ….. cut around a hydrangea and the leaf from the paper sheet. Glue the flower so it covers the black banner & then cut the paper so it curves with the rest of the MDF.
Step 9. Cut out the butterfly with some decoupage snips. Also cut the `Laugh`, `Smile` ,`Believe` & `Moments` sentiments leaving just a small edge around the words.
Step 10. Add some of the Tim Holtz shabby shutters distress ink on a Creative Expressions smoothies. Dab the ink over the cut out sentiments especially the white sentiments ones. This will just match up all of the sentiments nicely.
Step 11. Take the `Smile` sentiment and add some dries clear glue to the reverse of the piece before adding it over the `Live` sentiment which is already on the MDF paper panel.
Step 12. Go ahead and continue to add the `Laugh`, `Believe` & `Moments ` sentiments. Add some more of the shabby shutters ink around the edges of the MDF panel and over the oval pencil mark area. Using the smoothie is prefect for this as the ink is easily blended into paper over the oval area.
Step 13. Lay the ornate frame over the worked base to see the design starting to form. The butterfly will be used on the bottom right hand edge of the frame.
Step 14. Take some forest moss and the shabby shutters distress ink & work the ink into the MDF frame. I have used the burnt look side of the frame.
Step 15. Here you will see how the burnt side just gives the depth of brown as well as the green tones to the project.
Step 16. Alternatively use the other plainer side.
Step 17 . Add some of the clear & resist ink pad over all of the base panel or use some Perfect medium ink.
Step 18. Tip some of the Cosmic Shimmer ultra thick embossing crystals over the ink & gently tip off the excess.
Step 19. Heat set the ultra thick embossing crystals with a heat tool. This is the effect with just one layer. You will need to re apply some more of the ink (if the panel has cooled down ) & then add some more of the crystals over the top. Repeat the process until you have 3 layers. Hence the name triple embossing !!!!
Step 20. Here is the smoother finished look after the 3 layers are applied.
Step 21. Add some Cosmic Shimmer dries glue area the edge of the base MDF panel. ( Please not the photo has not been embossed here as the original project was going to have the Cosmic Shimmer gloss glue, seal & glaze product over it but because the distress ink was used it meant when the glaze dried it lifted the green into the glaze so the triple embossing got over that issue. Just use the glaze if you don`t distress the paper ).
Step 22. Stick the frame over the embossed back panel.
Step 23. Shake the glaze well and then add some of the Cosmic Shimmer glossy glue, seal & glaze into a small pot.
Step 24. Brush the glossy glaze over the frame.
Step 25. Then brush some of the glaze onto a small piece of cut`n`dry foam.
Step 26. Dab the foam up & down over the tacky glaze / glue you have just coated the frame with.
Step 27. This will create a lovely uniformed effect with the glaze rather than brush strokes. Continue and do this effect over the whole frame. Allow the glaze to dry.
Step 28. Add some of the glossy accents over the cut butterfly and allow it to dry before adding it to the bottom corner of the frame.
Step 29. Cut out the white blossom areas on the paper page out.
Step 30. Cut them out in detail leaving some of the leaves around the flower. Curve the leaves and edges of the petals to add dimension to the flower. Cut out a few sets of the flowers.
Step 31. Lay them on the edge of the frame so you can see how the design will build up.
Step 32. Make sure there is a flower and leaf coming out to the edge of the frame as this will add balance to the piece.
Step 33. Cut the 2 red flowers out of the paper sheet.
Step 34. and then cut another white blossom if you find you don`t have 3 red flowers. Add some of the fired brick distress ink onto the smoothie.
Step 35. Dab the ink onto the flower to match it up with the other 2 flower.
Step 36. This will just allow the colours to run through the project nicely. Glue the flowers to the frame using some Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue or use some 3d glue for added dimension.
Step 37. Add some glossy accents onto the leaves and red flowers leaving the white flower clear.
Step 38. Here you have the finished project, which I’m sure will lift your spirits and make you think of lots of happy memories when you look at the words as well as the lovely flowery design.
Step 39. Here is a close up of the glossy flowers.
