This workshop shows how to achieve a layered look with Sue Wilson`s new dies. Cosmic Shimmer foil has been used to add depth behind the die cut out feature & it makes for a nice setting for the stamped daffodils.

Step by Step Instructions
Select the Sue Wilson Granada & Galicia Spanish Collection Dies. Also the daffodil from the Creative Expressions singles stamp range.
Place the outer frame die of the Granada set (the larger die set) & the add the outer frame of the Galicia die set onto the kraft card and use some low tack tape the secure them in place. Cut & emboss this piece.
Now use the large outer die , the Granada main cut out die section & the small inner frame from the Galicia set. Again secure with low tack tape, cut & emboss through the Grand Calibur machine. These die are perfect to work together & interchange.
Go ahead & cut a 2nd & 3rd filigree frame but this time don`t use the inner small frame as this is for the underneath panel.
Depending on how the die shape was cut out (I amended the look afterwards for ease !!) then make sure the inner section was cut out on just 1 of the panels. Be careful not to emboss on a 2nd passas it will flatten the other embossing !!! Don`t worry with this step if you have already cut the panel with the inner frame step.
Use the 3rd main panel & draw around the outside of the small inner die. This will give you the enough border for the design to sit under the aperture & not be seen underneath the filigree pattern.
Cut around the just drawn line & this is how it will look under the aperture.
Lay the large frame on a piece of self adhesive sheet & the small inner frame too. Draw around the frame & cut out with a pair of scissors. You can cut with the die cutting machine but you will get the intricate pieces cut out of the frame . So best cut by hand so you get the foil in the border area.
Place some Cosmic Shimmer gilding flakes into a deep lipped tub. Make sure there are no clumps of foil as this will make it easier to add to the film in the next step. If there are just tease them apart.
Keep the baking on one side of the film & stick the other behind the frame with the aperture cut out of the centre. Press the flakes onto the sticky sheet.
Once all the sticky is covered take the scrub it foam & rub it across the gilding flakes as this will refine the foil & remove any excess pieces of foil.
This photo shows the difference between using the foil on the sticky panel or by adding the foil to some card & adding the frame over the top. Both nice but taking the time to add the foil to the film on the frame just brings a softer feel to the project.
Make a small panel of foil to go behind the small cut out panel or use the same technique & add the adhesive film behind the small filigree panel. Cut the inner foil area out to make the aperture which was covered in foil when the sticky sheet was added.
Here is a photo of the 2 panels, the main piece will be raised so that is gives depth to the piece.
Place some double sided foam tape around the edge of the aperture on the reverse side. Add another row for extra depth but be sure to remove the backing before adding the 2nd layer.
Remove the backing of the foam tape & stick the panel over the small inner panel.
Take the outer aperture frame & add some more foam tape to the reverse of the piece. Now add this onto the foiled piece.
Just lay the other frame under the foil frame in a landscape position as it will make the square like frame, it will be glued later on. Use the panel in this position or turn & use in a portrait position.
Decide if you want a light or dark tone to the flower. Ink the daffodil using the clear & resist ink pad & stamp onto a piece of kraft card.
Emboss with either the true white or arctic black embossing powder. Use a heat tool to set the embossing powder. Stamp 2 or 3 daffodils in your chosen colour.
Open up the Cosmic Shimmer Watercolours : Holly Leaf , Yellow Sun , Midnight Blue & Rich Gold & spritz them with some water & leave for 15 minutes.
Now mix the watercolours so that you have a lovely thick consistency. Then they will be ready to be used.
Paint your daffodils using the different watercolours. Build the image using the yellow & gold for the petals. Mix the yellow & blue for a different shade of green for the leaves. The watercolour will repeal off the embossed line which means you can add the colours fairly quickly. Now cut out the flowers.
Lay the prepared panels onto a piece of the light green card & make a little snip where the card needs to be cut to make a mat for the frame.
Cut the panel & then emboss a single line around the edging for detail. Add 2 layers of foam tape to the centre of the frame & the use 3d glue around the solid areas of the frame design. This is just on the plain non foiled filigree panel.
Cut a piece of script paper from the Teresa Collins Creative Expressions paper pad to 7½ ” x 7½”. Distress the edges using some Tim Holtz pumice stone ink on a piece of cut`n`dry foam. Use the blending mat for ease of use.
Mat the panel onto a piece of the light green card before adding the light green small panel behind the filigree panel. Use foam tape all the while for added depth & the add 2 layers of foam tape either side of frame to take up the depth of the foil panel.
Add the foil piece & then cut out the daffodils using a 3d glue. Decoupage the flowers up using the other cut layers.
Sue Wilson has some amazing decorative pins on her card samples so be sure to check out her blog. Click here for Sue`s blog They are made using the Creative Expressions plain pins or use some crystal stick pins already made up . If making them the add a drop of Cosmic Shimmer glue to the top of the pin.
Wait for the glue to go tacky, add a pearl bead to the of the pin & allow to dry. Select different beads & metal decorative beads ready to make the pins up with.
Tread the beads onto the pin. For the last bead add another drop of glue & smear it around the pin before adding the final bead. Here you have to very pretty bead pin you have designed yourself.
Add a Cosmic Shimmer bow & finish with a dazzler to cover the knot of the bow & to set the decorative pins behind. Here you have the completed Daffodil & foil card.
Just a close up of the flowers & the decorative pins.
