Step by Step Instructions
Cut 2 of the largest Grand oval dies (or use whichever size die to make the size gift bag needed) If the largest die is used and carefully added to the edge of an A4 sheet of card then it is possible to get 2 of the largest die shapes out of 1 sheet. Here a sheet of green double sided shimmer card has been used.
Place the oval shape into the courtship embossing folder & poke the top of the oval through the slot in the folder so that most of the card will be embossed. Use the base plate, the embossing folder & card, the tan mat & then the `D` adapter plate & emboss through the Grand Calibur machine.
Alternatively marry up the plain edge by finding the pattern match. It is a good idea to secure the folder& paper in place with some low tack tape onto the base board. Be careful when using tape as even the tape can leave an embossed mark.
Place the same mats as before over the embossing folder & leave the already embossed part out of the Grand Calibur machine to eliminate the folder leaving marks on the card.
For this project the 1st technique was used & the outer edges were left without any embossing. They will be covered with distress ink later and the bottom edges will be the base of the bag so it won`t matter either.
Another technique to think about is to swipe the Perfect Medium ink pad over the embossing folder before embossing & then use mica powders to add colour tones to the project.
Select the blues, purple, green & gold mica powders and have the lids off ready to start adding the powders to the project.
Pick up a small amount of the powder on a soft paint brush & swipe the mica over the prefect medium area. Build the different colours at random to give a soft feel to the perfect medium area.
Once the all the micas have been added spritz a fine mist of the Cosmic Shimmer vintage mist – tarnished gold over the complete area. This will seal the mica powder or alternatively add a fine mist of water.
Take the Peacock Feathers, Dusty Concord & Peeled Paint Tim Holtz distress ink pads and using the cut`n`dry foam distress the edges of the ovals. Also add colours over the embossed areas to lift the design. Once completed turn over the oval & swipe just the peacock feathers ink pad over the area & blend in the ink with the cut`n`dry foam.
Repeat the above process on both of the ovals until the desired colours are achieved.
Place the top of the oval up against the edge of a score board & score at the A4 half fold point or at 15cms. Do this on both ovals & crease the fold downwards.
Add glue to the middle section of the bottom of the oval front panel & stick it to the inside area of the other oval panel. Make sure not to glue near the edges as not all of the oval will overlap.
Punch an oval in the landscape position at the top of the oval to create the handle effect. Close the bag shout & add a pencil mark through the already cut oval so ensure the 2nd oval will be punched in the same place as the 1st oval.
Here is a close up of the bag base and the photo also shows where the edges of the oval that do not need to be glued.
Cut the Grand labels 4 shape in a doubled sided lilac card. Place the tip of the shape on the A4 gate fold line & emboss on the A5 gate line turn the piece around & repeat the same measurement.
Now turn the label panel to a landscape position with the point on the side of the score board & score on the A4 gate line. Turn the shape again & repeat the measurement on the other end.
Score all the creased lines & cut up to the 1st embossed line on both sides of the piece. Also go in & cut away the scalloped corner edge & leave just the 1st large scallop to make a tab to allow the shape to be formed into a box.
Apply the wonder tape or use the Cosmic Shimmer glue to the right side of all 4 corner tabs.
Fold & stick all the tabs onto the central panel of the box side panel & stick the box base to the centre of the bag bottom. Apply the wonder tape to the inner panel of the bag being careful not to add the tape to high.
Close the sides up and press the oval panels of the bag to the small box to secure the inner box in place. If you have a largest gift then why not wrap it in green tissue paper so it can be half in the box & half out of the box.
Take a long length of the Reseda vintage ribbon; wrap it around the gift bag & through the oval handle. Tie a knot & then a bow near the oval to secure the bag closed.
Here is a close up of the ribbon. Tie the bow to either side of the front depending on which side the tag & flowers are going to be added.
Add some small purple coloured bitty blossom flowers along with some foliage & flower leaves. Use either 3 or 5`s of everything to help balance the piece.
Here is the completed project with the gift tags added to compliment the design. Something that once made will be a quick project and would be a lovely item to receive a gift in or to sell at a craft fair.
Here is a close up of gift bag. There are some many embossing folders so lots of different designs to make. The Creative Expressions Facebook page would love to see any of your makes so please come along and add a photo of any of the workshop projects.
