Hole Punch & 160gsm Paper
Step by Step Instructions
Take your note papers or make some of your own. Make a bold border on a plain word document measuring 3. 7/8th” x 3.5”. Plot 4 borders on a sheet of A4 160gsm paper.
Print off at least 8 sheets of the borders and cut each one out leaving a small white border around the edge. Stamp the butterfly image in the bottom right hand corner using the brushed corduroy ink pad. Gather all the notelets together ensuring that all the top ends are level with each other & clamp the sides together.
Brush the PVA glue along the top edge of the note papers, dab the glue to get a nice thick layer and them smooth along the whole edge as you need to capture all the pages in the glue. Set the piece aside until dry.
Cut a strip of the Tim Holtz kraft resist paper measuring 4 inches wide and the full length of the 12 “ paper. Making the notebooks this size means you can get 3 books out of one 12” x 12” sheet.
Score the length of paper starting at the left hand side of the design at 3.5”, 4”, 8” & finally at 8.5”. Place the 3rd Grand labels 4 die cut face down onto the paper and secure in place with some low tac tape. Pull the side edges up & over the edge of the die & wrap the paper over the back of some thick cardboard.
Place the cut mat under the pieces and place the base mat on top and place through the Grand Calibur die cutting machine. The Thick card will stop the die from cutting through the rest of the notebook.
Take the cut piece & fold the notebook in place using all the crease points. Having made sure the sides of the die didn`t touch the edge of the paper means you have the straight edge.
Use the brushes corduroy ink pad & the cut`n`dry foam to distress the edge. Make sure you distress the top edge of the front of the book.
Place a reinforcer ring close to the point in the centre of the notebook flap. Distress the ring to match the design.
Punch a hole through the centre of the reinforcer ring.
Cut the 2nd small labels 4 shape out of an old gold piece of card.
Place the small shape on the reverse of the booklet flap. (DO NOT STICK THIS IN PLACE)
Punch a hole through the centre of the shape.
Now mark through the hole onto the inner flap of the closed notebook. This will give you the exact place to add the hitch fastener so it marries up with the hole on the front of the notebook when closed.
Place the die shape over the hole & attach the hitch fastener from behind.
The notepad will open freely once it has completely dried. Using this technique allows you to add lots of different pages within projects as each individual page can be removed.
Apply wonder tape to the inner back panel and attach the notepad in place.
Decoupage a couple of the butterflies to add depth to the front cover. Here you have the completed project, perfect for a small gift or to add to a craft table for something different to sell.
Here is the finished project along side another variation made using the mega nestibility die.
To make a different style notebook take 2 pieces of printed A4 backing paper. Fold them in half & cut them by placing the cut side edge over the folded edge of the paper.
Take some notelets that have 4 on an A4 sheet of paper. Trim them to size & glue the side edge using the technique used in the above project. Once the paper has been cut now score either side of the folded edge of the cover to add the depth needed to hold the note pages. Attach a strip of wonder tape on the outside of the book and pleat some vintage seam tape down the edge.
Repeat this on the other outside edge. Now you will be left with a lovely ribbon edge that looks perfect from the outside & inside of the book.
Apply a strong glue to the spine of the notebook (here a clear 3d glue gel has been used)
Now attach the prepared notelets into the glue pressing the side spine right up to the PVA glue on the side edge. Once dry you can crease the front cover of the book to make it easier to open the notepad.
