Step by Step Instructions
The snowman image can be found on the `Tatty Button cd rom` so print off the toppers & any backing papers that compliment the design. You will need one topper& 2 sheets of backing papers along with 1 sheet of A4 card for the base of the shadow box and an additional sheet if you wish to add the decorative border.
Cut the backing papers to 5.5inches x 5.5inches & place the largest labels 4 die in the centre of the piece that will be used for the front of the shadow box. Use low tac tape to secure the die in place before cutting the piece through a die cutting machine.
Cut the topper out using the next size down labels die and then cut the largest shape of the dotted backing paper to mat the topper up later.
There is an optional way of building the nestibility shapes by making a frame to be placed over the aperture on the front of the shadow box. So either use the frame or just have the flat aperture on the shadow box.
Gather the cut topper and also use a 2nd image to decoupage the snowman. Cut some red card using the largest die.
When using mats for the topper you may wish to use a smaller width panel so emboss the shape and use the inner embossed line as a guide to trim the excess off.
This will give you a perfect smaller mat in between the red card & the snowman image.
Distress the smaller shapes by using the fired brick ink & the cut`n`dry foam.
Cut & emboss 4 of the decorative borders from the red card.
Take the A4 card in a landscape position and cut 2 pieces of card measuring 5.75” wide & then turn the card & score from the left hand side @ 0.5” – 1” – 6.75” – 7.25” & cut at 7.75”. Repeat these measurements on the 2nd sheet of card.
Distress the edge of the backing paper with the fired brick ink and then secure the panel down in the middle area of the shadow box. There will be a small border left which will add detail to the finished piece. Place a smaller die in the middle of the card and cut out the aperture using the 2nd largest die.
Attach the other backing paper to the 2nd box piece & crease the outer score lines in place. The back of the box needs the tab facing upwards and the front of the box needs the tab facing downwards. The photo also shows where the frame could be added to the front of the card.
Stack the die shapes up using foam tape at each level & place the topper directly
under the aperture and secure in place on the bottom base card.
Wrap the wrinkled ribbon around the card front & finish in a bow at the front. Place double sided tape on the side tabs of the bottom outer lip. Fold over a small amount of the tape backing and crease to make a tab.
Line the top & bottom edges up of the shadow box and once you are happy the card is straight pull the tab to secure the sides in place.
Repeat this process on the other end of the card to complete the basic shape of the shadow box.
Attach the decorative border to the outer edge of the shadow box & trim away the
excess at the top & bottom. Now place the 2nd border on the reverse of piece lining up the design.
Match the border on the other end. Now decoupage the snowman by cutting away the face & then curve the edges. This will add depth to the piece once attached.
Here is a close up of how the shadow box will look from above. Add 3 brads on both sides near the decorative edge of the piece. Use just the brad heads & some 3d
glue to stick them in place.
Here is the finished project which stands nicely up on its own. The design can be added to an envelope in a flat position.
Add 2 decorative crystal pins into the knot of the bow & add a snowflake
embellishment to the corner of the design to complete the project.
